ABSTRACT
The present study examined the relationship between perceived media usage among parents and adolescent mental health within the cultural context of Vadodara, Gujarat. Students between 13-17 years recruited from English-medium schools were used for a cross-sectional survey design (n = 300). Methods: Data were collected using a self-developed Perceived Media Usage Scale and the Mental Health Inventory (MHI-38). SPSS version 23 and AMOS 20 was then used for Pearson product-moment correlation and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) respectively. Using SPSS version 23 and AMOS version 20, we applied Pearson correlation and Structural Equation Modeling. The analysis revealed that heavy media use by parents often connects to signs of stress in teenagers. This includes anxiety, depression, and difficulties managing emotions and behavior. Researchers found significant negative links with overall positive feelings, emotional connections, and life satisfaction. Structural equation modeling showed that how much parents think they use media significantly predicted higher levels of depression and a loss of emotional and behavioral control. It also negatively impacted overall positive feelings and emotional connections. These findings add to the growing evidence that parental media habits are an important factor in how teenagers adjust psychologically.
